Good Evening from Arkansas Children's Hospital, the greatest place for a child's treatment in the state! Caden has had an eventful day, from good times to stressful times, from success to struggles! We have a had a wonderful, day nurse the past two days who even stayed with Caden past her shift to make sure he was returning to stabilization, we absolutely love Melanie and she has been a huge blessing to us and Caden. She is a traveling nurse from Alabama, so for her we say "ROLL TIDE".
Caden has struggled with sodium levels in his blood since being seen at WRMC when the sodium was 124, so they gave a sodium supplement last night which has leveled off at 143 today. Caden had very low cortisol levels coming off his adrenal glands when tested this morning, which were a .9, a normal level is 15-22. They have began a hydrocortisone shot, to try and improve those numbers and set Caden up to see an endocrinologist. These levels control many things that go on in the body, much of which Caden has struggled with throughout his lifetime. All other blood labs are still showing negative, but he continues to have issues with his breathing and oxygen levels. They had him lowered to 30% at 6L earlier, but due to episodes tonight those numbers have been increased back to a standing level of 75% at 8L. He was also moved from PICU to intermediate PICU, and will watch tonight and through tomorrow before deciding on next move.
We are so thankful for your continued prayers, and I know God is hearing and answering those prayers. A great example would be the turn around that we saw around 7:30pm to 9:00pm tonight when he had a breathing and oxygen issue, and they were thinking about sending him back to PICU. There is no better place for a sick child in Arkansas that ACH, and Caden has had wonderful nurses who have taken such great care of him and showed wonderful support and kindness to us as parents. Thank you to Melanie, Leigh, Cassie, Whitney, Steve, Rob, and Brian for all you have done for Caden, you show the true meaning of the spirit of ACH.
